Medigap Plan C

What is Medigap Plan C?

Medicare Supplement insurance Plan C, Medigap Plan C, provides one of the most complete coverages when compared to other Medigap insurance plans. Those that elect to obtain the plan will notice that it covers most Medicare-approved out-of-pocket expenses. While Plan C does provide comprehensive coverage, it still has a few weak areas. One of the areas that it doesn’t provide coverage for is Medicare Part B excess charges. These are charges that doctors may tack on to bills that exceed the Medicare-approved amount for service payment.

Enrolling in Medigap Plan C is just as easy as enrolling in Medicare itself. You will have a window of six months during the Medigap Open Enrollment Period, where you can apply for the coverage. For most instances, insurance companies must accept the application and aren’t legally allowed to charge more if you are sick or have a pre-existing condition.

The six months of your Medicare Open Enrollment Period begins when you are both at least 65 years old and are enrolled in Medicare Part B. One sticking point that some people experience is when applying for Medigap Plan C while outside of your Medigap Open Enrollment Period. If this happens, the insurance company could require you to undergo medical underwriting and, in turn, could deny you access as a member.

What does Medigap Plan C Cover?

As mentioned before, Medigap Plan C is one of the most comprehensive options available to Medicare policyholders who are looking for Medigap insurance. Below is a list of all the coverages that one can typically expect with Medicare Supplement insurance Plan C:

  • Medicare Part A hospital costs and coinsurance up to 365 days once Medicare benefits are exhausted
  • Hospice care copayments and coinsurance under Medicare Part A
  • Copayments and coinsurance for Medicare Part B
  • The first three pints of blood needed for a medical procedure
  • Coinsurance for Skilled Nursing Facilities
  • Medicare Part A deductible
  • Medicare Part B deductible
  • Emergency foreign travel
